Most people who say they want to get fit actually don’t know exactly what they want to do. Do they want to get fit by bulking up, or just by slimming down? Perhaps they want to do both?
The fact is, in a way you can’t really do just one. You will do a little bit of both no matter what you do, unless of course you just only do a strict diet to slim down.
Working out is an entirely different story. When you are trying to slim down, you seem to focus more on the cardio aspect of things. You work hard at what you do, sweat a lot, and then the pounds hopefully start to come off.
The thing is though, you will also be building up muscles a bit while you are running or doing other types of workouts. This is not a bad thing, just know that you will not be just a slimmed down person.
Now bulking up is another deal all together. Before you bulk up, in a way you must slim down a bit. That is because you are attempting to replace all of your fat with muscle. You can’t just turn fat into muscle magically, you must instead burn the fat off first and then rebuild with muscle.
It would be no major concern if you are bulking up and the first few weeks you are actually lighter than you were in the past. This is a little shocking on the outside looking in, but no need to fear as this is just a minor setback to your long term goal.
Whether you are bulking up or slimming down, the main thing is you are in fact getting into better shape. That is obviously a good thing, and should not be overlooked. Any time you are making an effort to get better looking at an older age is a good thing. Just make sure you do the research beforehand so you know how to tackle each individual task.
